European Barrier Atlas Meeting in Milan

The Joint Research Centre hosted a productive and successful Work Package 1 (European Inventory of Stream Barriers) meeting in Ispra, Milan, on 29th and 30th November 2017.

The meeting was attended by Swansea University (SU), Joint Research Centre (JRC), Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), Conservatoire National du Saumon Sauvage (CNSS), University College Cork (UCC) and World Fish Migration Foundation (WFMF), all partners involved in the creation of the Barrier Atlas.

The main objective of the meeting was to determine the current status of data collection and field validation and discuss how to move forward. The diverse approaches and different analysis framework proposals were discussed.

All the data gathered by spring 2018 will be analysed to provide an estimate of barrier existence and an explanation of control factors of barrier existence and density at a pan-EU scale.

But not everything was work, there was also some time for a walk in the magical Lago Maggiore and plenty of laughs in the evening with a delicious risotto washed down with a lovely prosecco.
