How the AMBER Citizen Science project will make a difference in Scotland


While it is approximated that there are “around 1500 barriers” across Scotland, the true number remains uncertain. To grasp the magnitude of the barrier density within Scotland’s rivers, The University of the Highlands and Islands have helped to launch the Barrier Tracker app there. Now, locals can track barriers across the country to improve the current database and create a complete account of barriers in Scotland. This can better enable decision makers to prioritize changes to or removals of barriers to ensure the healthiness and state of rivers in Scotland is good.
